I provide online therapy for individuals and couples located in North Carolina and Florida. I help people who feel stuck, misunderstood, and disconnected experience life in a new way. I often use a scientifically--validated approach called Emotionally Focused Therapy (EFT) as a means to guide our sessions. This often leads to experiences that result in understanding, connected relationships, and healing. Although EFT is scientifically--validated, it seems science has discovered how God has created us to connect. It is in this sacred space I help couples move towards their goals.
Clients engaged with me in online therapy experience a connected, face-to-face session where movement towards their goals is a common occurrence. Many clients have become frustrated and overwhelmed with several barriers that tend to create significant challenges finding or maintaining regular appointments at a traditional physical office. Commuting, traffic, and driving distances seem to be a common challenge. Trying to find a counselor within a reasonable driving distance can also be difficult. When combined with a busy commute this can add more stress than help to an already challenging situation.
Other significant barriers include scheduling around work, childcare, and the daily logistics of life. In order to reduce these barriers I provide online therapy in a private place of your choosing that helps to minimize the logistical challenges of attending therapy sessions in an office.
Confidential and encrypted online video-conferencing platforms make online therapy possible. These platforms are similar to using FaceTime and Skype, but have an encrypted, confidential, and HIPAA compliant connection that can be used with tablets, laptops, desktops, and smartphones. Research has shown that outcomes for online therapy is on par with traditional, in-office therapy. Some clients have reported preferring online therapy. Therapy in their own space seemed to help them integrate sessions into their regular lives more effectively where therapy in an office seemed more compartmentalized. Does online therapy actually work?
A recent review was conducted* of research studies that compared online therapy to traditional, in-office therapy. Evidence-based therapy models were used. The review showed both online therapy and in-office therapy produced similar outcomes for clients. A couple of those studies actually showed upon follow-up that online clients experienced a greater reduction in symptoms than in-office clients.

What technology do I need?
Online therapy works best with a good internet connection with a computer, laptop, or other connected device. You will also need a webcam or built-in camera on the device that can be used in a comfortable place to talk in private without interruptions.
How will we connect online?
Once your appointment is set you will receive all the information you need to get set up via email. You will receive access to my HIPAA compliant, online client portal where there will be some initial paperwork to fill out. You will also receive a link to our online meeting before your appointment.
How do I know if it's right for me?
For most people, it's simply a preference between meeting your therapist in-person or whether you prefer the connivence of meeting in the comfort of a private space of your choosing. You may also prefer online therapy if commutes and busy schedules are challenging. There are some situations where online therapy is not the best option. I'll talk through this with you. If online therapy is not the best option I will help you find a local, in-person therapist to meet your needs.

Are you accepting new clients?
Yes, I am currently accepting new clients for online therapy who located in North Carolina and Florida.
How long/how often will we meet?
Sessions are based on the 50-minute therapy hour and are scheduled once a week usually in the evenings or on the weekends. I find that weekly sessions are the ideal amount of time to experience change without losing momentum in therapy. However, frequency of sessions can be increased or decreased based on your need, preference, and availability. The overall length of treatment can vary significantly based on you and your goals. Is my online therapy session confidential/secure?
It is my highest priority to maintain confidentiality and security of my clients. I strictly adhere to regulations and use only HIPAA compliant platforms for online therapy.
What payment options are available?
Session fees are securely processed through my online client portal payment system using your credit card. Session fess are paid at the time of service. Click here to schedule now.
Do you take insurance?
I do not bill directly to insurance and am considered out-of-network for all insurance providers. Session fees are paid at the time of service, but I can provide an invoice that you may use to seek reimbursement for services.
I encourage you to weigh the benefits of not using insurance (for example, you do not require a mental health diagnosis to engage in therapy; you have greater freedom to choose the therapist that is the best fit for you; you have increased privacy and confidentiality) and the benefits of using insurance (for example, you may pay less out of pocket for therapy after deductibles are met).
